The academic year at NaUKMA divides into three terms: autumn and spring terms, each of 13 weeks, and summer term of 8 weeks*. In the middle of both autumn and spring terms, NaUKMA students are given so-called “Week of Unassisted Work” to accomplish essays and papers for their courses*. Last two weeks of autumn and spring terms and last week of summer term are examination periods.

*The Autumn Term of the Academic Year 2009/2010 lasts ten days longer than usually because of compelled changes in the timetable: since October 31 till December 23 the studying process at NaUKMA was suspended to prevent epidemic of influenza, according to the enactment of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine ¹1152 dated by October 30, 2009. On the same score, the Week of Unassisted Work in the Spring Term was cancelled.
