NaUKMA practices an educational style, which has some striking differences with the systems used at the majority of other educational institutions in Ukraine. The NaUKMA students are encouraged for much individual imitative, responsibility and critical thinking. These makes the time of studies at the Academy an intellectual challenge.
Teaching Methods
Most of the teaching at NaUKMA is organized in courses, which usually are a term or a year long. Classes meet once or several times per week for at least two academic hours. The NaUKMA students encounter various teaching methods. Among them lectures, seminars, group work, practical and laboratory courses, internships and fieldworks etc.
Assessment
Assessment is usually based on the class participation, oral presentations, written paper(s) or another assignment, and final examination (test).
Credit System
A credit system is used by NaUKMA to show the scope of a course or a study program. One NaUKMA credit equals approximately to the amount of work that can be done in 54 hours, which includes both in-class and independent activities. Usually the NaUKMA semester courses are worth or 1 to 4 credits.
Language of Instruction
NaUKMA has Ukrainian and English as its official languages. Intermediate level of English is a NaUKMA admission requirement. NaUKMA runs several programs with the English language of instruction and offers a number of single courses in English. Alongside NaUKMA offers a number of other than English foreign languages as Second Foreign Language course units to prepare its students for off-campus study programs, international graduate studies, or careers in the international arena.
